FibreOP recommended minimum system requirements
For optimum Internet speed, we recommend:
Hardware:
-
Network interface controller (NIC):
- a 100 Mbps NIC as a minimum for FibreOP Internet speeds up to and including 80/30
- a Gigabit Ethernet as a minimum for FibreOP Internet speeds greater than 80/30
-
Cabling:
- CAT5e (short lengths only) as a minimum
- CAT6 Ethernet (when CAT5e cabling is proven to cause slow speeds)
-
Random access memory (RAM):
- 1 GB as a minimum
- 2 GB recommended
-
Hard drive free space:
- 500 MB as a minimum
- 2 GB recommended
-
Processor:
- 1.5 GHz as a minimum
- 2 GHz recommended
-
Operating System:
- MacTM OS version 10.6 or higher
- WindowsTM Vista or higher
- The latest Microsoft OS service packs with updates and patches applied
Please note: to achieve optimum download speeds from FibreOP Internet 200/30 to a PC, you need to use Windows 7 or higher with all updates and patches applied.
Software:
Driver for your NIC – the latest version from your NIC driver manufacturer’s website.
Please note: some firewall and anti-virus applications reduce the throughput of a computer. For speed tests these applications may need to be modified or disabled. Where possible, this should be avoided because of the security risk.

Troubleshoot my Wi-Fi connection
Simple things such as correct settings, proper placement and eliminating interference can help fix issues with your wireless connection.
Follow these easy steps:
Check the network name
You will find the network names printed on a sticker on your modem and wi-fi extenders. A copy of the stickers will also be placed in your welcome guide for easy reference.
Check location of the modem
It is important to ensure that the modem and your wi-fi extender are not placed on top of another electronic device or anything that produces heat. This could cause the equipment to overheat and could lead to possible damage or interference with your internet connection.
Interference or low signal strength
Your FibreOP modem and wi-fi extender should be placed in the central locations and at least 1 foot away from any other wireless electronic devices (cordless phone, baby monitor, etc...) to minimize interference.
Reboot your computer
Turn your computer off and turn it back on. Restarting your computer can often help clear speed issues by closing programs that are running in the background and may be impacting your speed.
Check for peer-to-peer sharing
Your speed will be impacted by uploading or downloading files using peer-to-peer software. Close all peer-to-peer file sharing programs (example: Utorrent, Gnutella , Limewire) on your computer and any other computers or devices in your home.
Reset your router
Like any other piece of hardware, your modem and wi-fi extender may need to be reset after running for an extended period of time.
To reset your modem:
- Shut down your computer.
- Push the power button located at the back of the modem or remove the power cord from the back of the modem.
- Wait 30 seconds and then power up the modem and computer.
To reset your wi-fi extender:
- Remove the power cord from the back of the wi-fi extender.
- Wait 30 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wi-fi extender.
Check for spyware
Spyware is piece of software that gathers information through your connection, often without your knowledge or consent. If spyware is present on your computer, it can slow down your connection speeds.
Make sure to scan for Spyware and clean your system regularly using Anti-Spyware software.
Clear your web browser cookies and cache
When surfing the Internet, your web browser stores (caches) text, images and preferences (cookies). Over time, these files accumulate and may have to be cleared or they can cause slower speeds while browsing.

Troubleshoot slow speeds and connection issues
✓ Test your Internet speed
Connect your computer directly to your modem using an Ethernet cable. You may not see accurate results if you are using a Wi-Fi connection because of interference from other appliances, cordless phones and devices.
✓ Check the location of your modem
If your modem is placed on top of another electronic device or anything that produces heat, move it so that it does not overheat.
✓ Check for interference
If there are other wireless electronic devices (for example: cordless phones or baby monitors) within a foot from your modem, move them further away.
✓ Reboot your computer
-Turn your computer off.
-Turn your computer back on.
-Test your connection speed again.
✓ Close all peer-to-peer file-sharing programs (for example: Utorrent, Gnutella , Limewire) on your computer and any other computers or devices in your home and test your speed again.
✓ Reboot your modem
-Turn off your computer.
-Push the power button located on the back of the modem or remove the modem's power cord from the electrical socket.
-Wait 30 seconds
-Push the power button again or plug the power cord back into the electrical socket.
-The modem reboots (this takes 1-2 minutes).
-Test your connection speed again.
✓ Check for spyware
-Spyware is software that gathers information through your connection, often without your knowledge or consent. If spyware is present on your computer, it can slow down your connection speeds.
-Use security software (such as Internet Security Services) to scan your computer for Spyware and remove it.
Note: Repeat this scanning and removal on a regular basis.
✓ Clear your web browser’s cookies and cache
Your web browser stores (caches) text, images and preferences (cookies) as you browse. These files can slow browsing speeds as they accumulate and may need to be removed.
